Youth Championship

Mock Competition & Training Camp

Join us for an industry-leading training camp just one week before ASCEND South Side hosts the USAC Region 62 Youth Regional Championship. It’s the perfect way to fine-tune your competition mindset, dial in your power, and prepare for Championship season!

ASCEND is proud to partner with Cody Grodzki, a USAC Level 5 Chief Routesetter, to offer this championship-level training camp at ASCEND South Side. This training camp will provide a unique opportunity for climbers to work with ASCEND’s high-level setting and coaching teams to prepare for the upcoming USAC Regional Championships.

ASCEND’s setters’ expertise and experience hosting a number of USAC Regional events in the past, coupled with Cody’s years of experience running similar championship-level youth training camps and chiefing high-level events around the country, will provide our youth competitors with an unmatched training experience.

Overview:

This is an all-day camp that will run from 10a-4p that we are offering on both Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22, 2026. Participants may choose either Saturday or Sunday! We also welcome those who want to register for both days separately and will work to make the second day worthwhile and expansive for those competitors. This Training Camp is designed for climbers who are USAC Regional Qualifiers. While we do not require that you have qualified for this year’s Regional Finals, the level of boulders will be set to a minimum competency level, requiring a certain skill level from the participants. This camp welcomes newer and experienced competition climbers and will be suitable for any climber who is involved in the Championship Tract (USAC Regionals, Divisionals, Nationals).

Format:

Participants will start the day warming up in isolation before running through a four-problem, onsight mock-competition, just like they will the following week for Regionals. We will run this portion of the day as close to form as Regionals is structured to provide a meaningful experience which will prepare your competition mindset. Then, climbers will work in small groups and one-on-one with coaches and setters, breaking down each boulder in great detail. Setters will modify the boulder problems to meet the climbers where they are, while gradually modifying back to the original problem. The goal is to identify weaknesses and work to overcome them with proven coaching and setting techniques.
